The 15 min Tartu Signage System has an agenda to encourage people to fully take advantage of the urban space around them; get people out of their cars and houses to walk and bike in order to venture, discover and move from point A to point B regardless of their age, origin, social status or special needs. A sign is no longer merely a directional guide, but a tool for the full use of urban space. Promoting sustainable mobility and opening up urban space for people are the changes in consumption patterns that this wayfinding system is designed to introduce in society.
The signage system is amodular design that can be easily adapted to different environments and manufactured efficiently. When selecting building materials, we opted for metal, glass and concrete that were known to be durable in the local climate, leaving a small footprint considering both the delivery and manufacturing process, and easy to maintain. In regard to the plastic-based material components, we chose the ones of high quality, long-lasting and recyclable.
