A high-fired, press moulded, porcelain figurine with hand painted grid, inlaid blue clay stripes circling the base, individualized faces, and hair, made of wire, fixed one strand at a time.
I want to engage with a material arts practice using detailed handwork as one way to slow down, and illustrate a passage of time. To seek singular outcomes is one way to fly in the face of mass consumerism.
I find that the horse’s image exemplifies the escalation of change. I compose my equestrian images to regard the past from a present day point of view.
In this piece, the horse is racing and the rider is static, simply being carried away. I have used the manner of its manufacture to convey time given, and the opposing experiences of the rider and the horse enforce the idea of being taken through change.
