Work, family, partnership, weekends, vacations, health, social power, wealth… We put ourselves under an enormous pressure to achieve multiple tasks; meanwhile, our interests for human emotional interrelations fall behind.
In Helmet – River and Modern Ballet Duo and Trio, I examine objectified mechanical people who fulfill routine of teamwork.
A bucket was handed to me and I was told to go on knees to wipe floors. As I did not grow up in Japan, it felt to me like an absolutely banal task.
As the scene opens up to paint the empty canvas, we are reminded that every person has his own speed and patterns to move.
Modern Ballet Duo and Trio resembles mechanical couple and family life.
Helmet - River should be projected directly on the wall, the blue canvas (1m x 1m) to be placed on the floor, and a flat screen monitor should show Modern Ballet Duo and Trio.
